community Engagement strategist (publishing team)
We're looking for an experienced community manager and social media expert to nurture and expand our growing community around The Long Dark, and future games from Hinterland.
We hope to find someone with 5+ years of experience in hands-on tactical work in community, as well as a high-calibre aptitude for the savvy use of forums, social media, streaming, and the traditional tools of communication and community-building. You have an excellent grasp of "brand voice" and can craft well-written posts in social media and forums that are player-facing, informative, but also respect the development team's strategic goals.
To be successful in this role, you need to bring a wealth of tactical and strategic experience in nurturing online communities, and feel as comfortable hanging out in forums or posting in social media, as you do representing projects at industry events. You understand what has worked in the past, have opinions about what will work in the future, have a passion for the game industry and care about positive, inclusive community engagement. You want to join us in our journey to stamp out online toxicity, and to show the world that player communities are entirely capable of thoughtful, respectful dialogue.
In addition to bringing a wealth of experience to the table, you have the core skills and personality traits needed to excel in a dynamic environment where the right answers aren't always clear -- this is a vibrant industry and the studio is heading into a growth phase, so we need people who have the communication and critical thinking skills, as well as a fearless curiosity, to ensure they can keep up and grow with the team and company. You need to be able to work from a strategic view one minute, and then dive in and get your hands dirty "in the trenches" the next. This is not a position for a passive onlooker, or someone who is afraid to take a step into unfamiliar territory.
Hinterland is a partially-virtual studio, although we prefer this to be an in-studio position for proximity with the Publishing Group, and we believe the best case scenario would be for this position to be based in our Vancouver studio location, or within close proximity. We support our partially-distributed model with regular face-to-face team meetings, so some travel will be required, and you may be required to travel to industry events. To facilitate communication, we prefer candidates who are able to work core hours that overlap with the Pacific Time Zone. Candidates who are legally permitted to work in Canada are preferred, but our first priority is hiring the best people we can find, and we are willing to provide relocation and visa support for the right candidate. We are a small team and intend to stay that way, so everyone we hire needs to be exceptional.
