IT SOLUTIONS EXPERT
Hinterland is growing and we need an IT solutions expert to grow with us. Our studio is headquartered in Vancouver but we operate on a partially distributed and optionally remote model. The ideal candidate is one who is well equipped to not only support our current development setup, but also has the expertise and forward-thinking tech acumen to help us successfully grow our IT infrastructure and work with us to adopt policies to keep us secure as our studio grows.
All things related to hardware and software that Hinterland needs to keep operating effectively and efficiently would fall under your purview. This would include a wide gamut of procurement, maintenance and support, ranging from our team’s personal desktop workstations to our studio’s networked servers as well as all the software we run on them. Working alongside our team leads, you would be our go-to person for assessment, setup and deployment of new software and hardware. You would also own all relationships needed to keep our IT up and running (like ISP for example).
Perforce servers, network shares, PC/Mac/Linux environments, VPN, various network services, as well as a number of software solutions commonly found in game development form the basis of your day to day. You will also provide deskside and remote support, help our new hires get set up with hardware and software as well as support our development, marketing/publishing and testing teams in an environment that covers PC, Mac, Xbox, PS4 and other platforms.
We are a studio of doers and problem solvers and we pride ourselves on challenging convention when appropriate; we don’t do things just because that’s how it’s always been done. We are enterprising but an Enterprise solution may not always be the right solution for us. You will need to be considerate and flexible in your solutions and agile in your ability to take on various tasks. Though IT is your main focus, there will be occasions where the line is blurred with facilities (like if we need your help in setting up meeting and review rooms). You should have a desire to tackle new challenges to come up with solutions to support Hinterland’s IT needs. Decisions are made quickly here and so are course corrections when needed; this role is not suited to someone who is uncomfortable with pivoting and re-prioritizing.
Procure, deploy and upkeep hardware and software for workstations, servers and meeting rooms.
Ensure day-to-day functionality of studio hardware and software
Provide day-to-day desktop support for Users both local and remote
Install, configure and support software (Unity, Faceware, Maya, Perforce, etc...)
Maintain and develop the studio network as needed
Ensure security and integrity of resources
Provide documentation and support to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment
Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance
Identify and mitigate potential issues and risks
Maintain, deploy and support various development environments
Plan both short term and long term studio IT growth
Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, troubleshoot software, maintaining mission critical servers etc.)
Maintain server maintenance schedule
Maintain and expand hardware as studio needs
Catalog and inventory all hardware and software
Ensure smooth operation of day-to-day studio technology
Proven experience as IT Technician or relevant position
3+ Years managing a small to medium size IT infrastructure (20-60 staff)
Self-directed and proactive.
Outstanding organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
In depth experience with Windows, Linux and Macs
Experience maintaining and deploying a variety of environments and servers
Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
Experience working with and maintaining mission critical servers and software
Experience working with console development kits highly preferred.
